Employee/Student Assignment

The Employee/Student Assignment form for the 2026–2027 school year will be available from April 29, 2026, through June 5, 2026.

This assignment request form is for Cumberland County School Employees ONLY. As a new hire after June 6, 2025, the application must be submitted within two weeks of the hire date. Upon receiving your approval, please contact the designated school to initiate the enrollment procedures.

Employee/Student assignment is based on the district of the payroll school/department of the employee. A Voluntary Transfer form can be submitted for a school outside the employment district.

If the employee resides outside Cumberland County, you must submit an approved student release form from your county of residence via email to studentassignment@ccs.k12.nc.us  in order for your application to be processed.

*Employment status must be at 80% or greater to qualify for this provision.

Voluntary Transfer

The Voluntary Transfer application for the 2026–2027 school year will be available April 20, 2026 through May 29, 2026.

A Voluntary Transfer is a formal request for Cumberland County residents to attend a school outside their residential assignment within the CCS system.

Transfer requests will be processed within 15 business days of submission not including weekends or holidays. Notification of the decision will be sent via email to the email address provided on the form.

Important Information:

  • Voluntary Transfers are approved for the 2026-2027 school year only and must be submitted each school year.

  • Annual renewal of the Voluntary Transfer is required. 

  • Parents are responsible for ensuring timely transportation to and from school. If a student’s tardiness or absences become a concern, the assignment approval may be rescinded.

  • Students in grades 6–12 who are approved for a Voluntary Transfer are not eligible to participate in athletic activities, as defined in the CCS Athletic Handbook, for 365 days from the date the transfer is first approved.

26/27 CCS Voluntary Transfer

Opt Out of Year-Round

Please submit this form ONLY if your residentially zoned school is a year-round school. After submission of this form, it is a continuation unless the parent/guardian requests to exit the Opt Out of Year-Round option.  

Important information

  • Approval is automatic for Opt-Out of Year Round.

  • For enrollment, contact the designated school.

If this form is not submitted, the student will be assigned to your residentially zoned year-round school for the 2026–2027 school.

Note: If you wish for your child to remain at the assigned year-round school, the assignment is for the full academic year. Students can change their assignments during the school year only if they move out of the current attendance area.

Student Release

The Cumberland County Schools Student Release form grants permission for release from the Cumberland County School system to attend another North Carolina public school system. Once this form is submitted to the Student Assignment Office, it will be placed on the CCS Board of Education Agenda to be reviewed by the CCS Board of Education. A notification letter will be sent by email upon approval.

This form must be completed and submitted for review annually if you wish for your child to continue enrollment/attendance in another NC public school system while residing in Cumberland County.

CCS County Release

Choice/Year Round Exit

To withdraw your child from a Choice Program/school or Year Round Opt-Out school to return to the assigned  Year Round school, you must submit an Exit Form for each student. When the form is submitted it will be processed through the Student Assignment Office. 

Important information

  • Approval is automatic during the exit window.

  • Your child will be reassigned to your residentially zoned school for the 2026–2027 school year.

  • This form is not necessary for transfers out of the county, out of the state, or out of the public school system.

  • The Exit Form will be available January 12, 2026 – May 29, 2026.

  • The deadline to submit the form is May 29, 2026, no exceptions.

  • Late submissions will not be accepted or processed.

    CCS Choice/Year Round Exit Form

Fort Bragg High School Election

 Students of active duty service members who reside on Fort Bragg are eligible to attend Cumberland County Schools may seek to enroll in any comprehensive high school within the district by completing this Fort Bragg High School Election Form. 

  • Annual renewal of the election is required to confirm continued residency and school selection.

  • Families are expected to commit to the approved high school for the entire school year.

  • CCS reserves the right to make final school assignment approvals based upon space availability and facility capacity.

  • Transportation for students residing on Fort Bragg is provided only for students enrolled in E.E. Smith High School (bus stop service) and Tolson Youth Center bus routes for select specialized programs.

  •  All other families are responsible for ensuring timely transportation to and from school. If a student’s tardiness or absences become a concern, the assignment approval may be rescinded.

Processing time can be up to 15 business days not including weekends and holidays. Notification will be sent via email. Please allow the full 15 business days before contacting the Student Assignment office for an update.
